An Insurance LitRPG

The policy summary

Tomas Hale spent nineteen years calculating when people would die. He was very good at it. Then someone sorted a spreadsheet column on its own, and the universe used the wrong row.

He wakes in a dripping forest, still in his office shirt, in a world where everyone can see their exact odds of dying in the next twenty-four hours. Heroes get swords. Mages get fire. Tomas gets [Underwriter]: F-rated, no attack skills, no armor, “no projected survival contribution.”

What it does have is one strange ability. He can write binding insurance policies with anything that genuinely agrees to one. Monsters. Adventurers. A very polite werewolf. Possibly gods.

Premiums are paid in mana, in skills, in years of life. Claims are paid by the System. And a man who reads the fine print can do a great deal with that.

So while the guilds hunt for chosen ones, Tomas rents a damp room under a dungeon and opens the first insurance firm in history.

Then the System sends him a notice.

It is insolvent. In 365 days, coverage ends. For everyone.

Tomas, early on. DP is his Death Probability for the next 24 hours. He would like it noted that 61.2% is not rounded.

What’s covered

  • A non-combat lead who wins with odds, clauses and loopholes, not bigger swords.
  • Dry British humor, status screens, and policy documents you will actually want to read.
  • A rules-consistent System. XP comes from surviving risk, not from killing.
  • Business-building first, kingdom-sized stakes later.

Exclusions

  • Chosen ones. The guilds are looking for those; Tomas is busy.
  • Rounding.
