Privacy policy
Last updated: October 15, 2026
This policy covers the website milesrookbooks.com and the Miles Rook newsletter. The short version: the site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, and the newsletter only gets your email address if you sign up and confirm it.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Jiří Junek, a private individual writing under the pen name Miles RookSlunečná 1431
252 28 Černošice
Czech Republic
Email: privacy@milesrookbooks.com
For anything in this policy, including exercising your rights, write to that address.
2. Visiting the website
The site is static: no accounts, no comments, no cookies set by the site, no analytics, no advertising or social-media trackers, and no fonts or scripts loaded from third parties.
Hosting and server logs. The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA). When you load a page, Netlify’s servers necessarily process technical data such as your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, your browser’s user agent and the referring page, and may keep it in server logs. This is used to deliver the site and keep it secure and working. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Netlify acts as a processor and retains logs according to its own terms. Because Netlify is based in the United States, this data may be transferred there; such transfers rely on the safeguards in Netlify’s data processing terms (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses). See Netlify’s privacy policy.
3. The newsletter
What is collected: your email address; your interest choice (books, the serial, or both), stored as membership in the matching subscriber group; where you signed up (for example, the website or a link in a book); the date, time and IP address of your signup and of your confirmation, kept as proof of consent; and, if enabled in the email service, whether newsletter emails are opened and which links are clicked.
Purpose: sending you the newsletter you asked for, in the version you picked, and knowing roughly which emails are useful.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to the address above. Withdrawal doesn’t affect emails already sent.
Double opt-in: after you sign up, you receive a confirmation email. You are added to the list only after you click the link in it. Unconfirmed signups are not sent the newsletter.
How long: until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion. After you unsubscribe, your address may be kept on a suppression list so that you are not emailed again by mistake, and the record of your consent may be kept as long as needed to show it was given (Art. 6(1)(f) and Art. 7(1) GDPR). If you want your data deleted entirely, write to me.
Processor: the newsletter is run on MailerLite, provided by UAB MailerLite, Lithuania (EU). MailerLite stores subscriber data and sends the emails on my behalf, under a data processing agreement. The signup form on the newsletter page is part of this site; when you submit it, your email address and interest choice are passed by a small server function run by Netlify (see section 2) directly to MailerLite and are not stored by Netlify beyond its usual technical logs. MailerLite may use sub-processors, some outside the EU, under appropriate safeguards. See MailerLite’s privacy policy.
4. Emailing me
If you write to privacy@milesrookbooks.com, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. I use them to reply and to deal with what you asked about (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or steps you requested, such as a signup by email). The mailbox is provided by Microsoft (Outlook.com). Emails are kept as long as the conversation needs, then deleted.
5. Sharing
Your data is not sold, rented or traded, and it is not used for profiling or automated decisions. It is shared only with the processors named above, and with authorities if the law requires it.
Links on this site to other websites, such as Amazon or Royal Road, lead to services with their own privacy policies.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data held about you (Art. 15);
- have it corrected (Art. 16);
- have it erased (Art. 17);
- restrict its processing (Art. 18);
- receive it in a portable format (Art. 20);
- object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21);
- withdraw your consent at any time (Art. 7(3)).
Write to privacy@milesrookbooks.com. You’ll get an answer within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the Czech Republic that is the Office for Personal Data Protection (Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, ÚOÚÚ), Pplk. Sochora 27, 170 00 Praha 7, uoou.gov.cz. You can also contact the authority in the EU country where you live or work.
7. Age
The newsletter is not aimed at children. If you are under 15, please don’t sign up without a parent or guardian’s consent.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. Significant changes affecting subscribers are announced in the newsletter.
